Meet Our Key Staff

Miguel Ortega, LG

Principal, Geologist

staff_03As a college student during the ecology movement in the late 1970s, Miguel was inspired by his hydrogeology professor to combine his interest in geology and groundwater issues with engineering and ecological disciplines. He pursued a career in this industry “to help people, including property owners, developers, financial officers, and investors, find simple and cost-effective solutions to environmental problems,” says Miguel.

He has found that people appreciate experts who can simplify the nature and significance of environmental contamination and how regulations impact their properties. He enjoys interacting with clients to help them identify the right mitigation strategy for their situation and finds it especially rewarding to be involved in the entire process of cleaning up a site–from initial investigation through mitigation design and implementation.

Regarding his goals for GOSpectrum, Miguel summarizes, “my challenge is to simplify the mitigation of environmental liability for my clients and at the end of the day, know that I provided the best service possible while doing what I enjoy.”

Jim O’Malley

Senior Project Manager–Construction & Haz-Mat Services

staff_07Saying that Jim is a hard worker is putting it mildly. During summer visits to his family’s farm, Jim took care of animals, harvested crops, and operated farm equipment at an early age and at 10, talked his way into his first paying job at a construction site. This “can-do attitude“–a term most people have heard, but which Jim has perfected–
continues to serve him well in his career.

Exposure to farming and construction nurtured Jim’s interest in combining construction with sustainable practices. He currently lives on a 21-acre site where he built his own home, shop, and organic farm, in addition to installing one of the first single-family solar, wind, and hydroelectrical systems in Washington.

Professionally, Jim has worked in landscaping, maintenance, and construction. During the 1980s, he was continually exposed to asbestos, lead, and hydrocarbons while working on renovation projects. “I became interested in addressing the impact of hazardous materials on workers and project sites,” Jim says.

As a construction manager with GOSpectrum, Jim brings expertise in worker safety, building demolition, site development, and environmental remediation of hazardous materials.
